H.E. Shri Ajit Gupte

H.E. Shri Ajit Gupte holds extensive experience as a foreign policy leader who has created and maintained strong international ties related to peacekeeping, trade, economics, cultural, social, and environmental issues. By joining the Indian Foreign Service in 1991, his excellency has served as Under Secretary (China) during postings in Hong Kong, 1998-2000, and then Beijing, 2000-2004. H.E. Gupte has also proven his extensive exposure to India’s neighborhood by serving in Dhaka, Bangladesh, from 2004 to 2008 as First Secretary/Counsellor.

H.E. Gupte had also served in ICCR as Deputy Director General to promote India’s cultural diplomacy and ‘soft power’ from 2008 to 2010. Thereafter, he was Deputy Chief of Mission in the Embassy of India, Berlin, from 2010 to 2014. During this period, he was also Charge d’ Affaires for 9 months. He held the post of Joint Secretary (Haj) for a year and was Joint Secretary (Development Partnership Administration), dealing with Lines of Credit for all countries, including India’s neighboring countries and Africa, from 2015 to 2017.

H.E. Gupte served as Ambassador of India to Denmark from September 2017 to March 2021. He took charge as the Ambassador of India to the Arab Republic of Egypt on 10 March 2021.
